Was ever noticed the size of your child's wrist? Based on the study of Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, the size of the wrist can be used to detect the risk of heart disease in children.

The study showed that children with larger wrists into the high insulin resistance marker. This is one significant aspect which can encourage heart problems later in life.

Researchers enrolled 500 children with overweight. Using MRI scanners, the researchers noted the size of the wrist all the participants. Children who have a greater bone area have high levels of insulin resistance 20 percent greater.

Simple measurements of the width of the wrist also showed excess levels of fat, which has impacted on the level of risk of heart disease. The research was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

Dr. Marco Capizzi, the researcher, said the study will proceed by examining the relationship wrist size and insulin resistance in children with a healthy weight. It's easier for doctors to detect the risk of heart disease since the age of the child.

Nevertheless, these results still need to be developed. Therefore, the child's body changes rapidly during adolescence, which means a more accurate method should be designed.

"We hope to be able to re-examine further how important this could determine the future and we will also examine children with normal weight," he said as quoted by the Daily Mail.
